Dental crowns are a practical and popular solution for restoring damaged or weakened teeth. They protect your teeth, improve functionality, and help you show off a beautiful smile. At Smile Today Dental in Glenview, Illinois, Drs. Evelyn Kidonakis and Jinyoung “Anny” Yoo make the process of getting dental crowns smooth and comfortable. Whether you live in Glenview or nearby Northbrook, Illinois, our team is ready to serve your oral health needs. If you have been searching for “dental crowns near me,” look no further.

Here are the steps you can expect when you come in for crowns for teeth at our office:

Step 1: Initial consultation and examination

The first step to obtaining dental crowns is a thorough evaluation of your oral health. Drs. Evelyn Kidonakis and Jinyoung “Anny” Yoo assess your teeth, gums, and overall dental condition to determine if a crown is the best solution for you. During this initial visit, we also discuss your concerns, dental history, and treatment goals. Using advanced diagnostic tools, we create an accurate picture of your dental needs and provide a clear plan to move forward.

Step 2: Preparing the tooth

Once we confirm that a dental crown is necessary for your needs, the next step is to prepare the affected tooth. First, our dentist numbs the area to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. Then, they carefully shape the tooth by removing any decay or damage and reshaping it to accommodate the crown. By the end of this process, the tooth will have the correct structure to securely hold the restorative crown.

Step 3: Taking impressions

Precision is critical when creating a crown that fits perfectly. After preparing your tooth, we take detailed impressions. These impressions act as a precise mold, capturing the shape and size of your tooth and surrounding structures. Based on these impressions, your custom dental crown is expertly crafted to provide the best fit, function, and appearance.

Step 4: Temporary crown placement

While your permanent crown is being fabricated, our dentists place a temporary crown that protects the prepared tooth. This temporary crown allows you to eat, speak, and go about your day without discomfort. It also ensures your tooth remains safe while you wait for the final restoration to be completed. Temporary crowns are both durable and functional, but remember to treat them gently until the official crown is ready.

Step 5: Placing your custom dental crown

Once your permanent crown is ready, you return to Smile Today Dental for the final step. The dentist carefully checks the fit, comfort, and appearance of your custom crown. After verifying everything aligns perfectly, the crown is securely bonded onto your tooth using dental cement. This ensures a firm, seamless fit that restores the function and aesthetic of your smile.

Step 6: Follow-up care

Proper care ensures your dental crown lasts for many years. After the crown is placed, our team provides you with easy-to-follow instructions for maintaining it at home. This includes emphasizing the importance of brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits to maintain your oral health.

Hi, my name is Natasha. So I chose Smile Today Dental about 30 some years ago, over 30 years actually. And it was by chance someone recommended Dr. Kidonakis and I just went there and needed some dental work done. And since then I have been coming back and coming back some more. I haven’t stopped coming. So I have had about every procedure possible throughout the last 30 years. I had Invisalign done because I had a tooth that was a little forward. Obviously I’ve had some old fillings replaced because they were getting old. And then I once chipped a tooth and called and said, oh my gosh. And I was in a panic because it was my front tooth and it’s very right there when you smile and you can see it. So I called and they immediately brought me in. They replaced it, and it was so nice the way that she really cared to match the exact collar to my teeth so that it wasn’t like, oh my gosh, she’s got a chipped tooth. So it was wonderful. Yeah.

I would recommend for anyone to come here. The 30 years that I’ve been coming, I think speak for themselves, but also my kids have been coming here since they were little and they’re now in their twenties and still keep coming back here. They love the care that they get. We have never felt like we can’t pay for the service or we can’t come at a certain time. Even with my crazy work schedule, they’re always accommodating, but they’re so caring, they really care about how they treat you. And even when they grew, they were very careful in the way that they expanded to make sure that everybody still feels like they’re coming to the same place. And some of the people that work here, I’ve been here a long time, and the new ones have come in and blended in perfectly.

So it’s just a really caring practice from the front desk to the dentist, to the hygienist. Everyone is wonderful. So I would recommend this, and I do all the time. I’m like, you need a dentist, you got to go here. So yes, I would recommend for anyone to come here. I just want to say thank you because there have been Dr. Kidonakis especially, it’s really hard to find someone that cares about their job as much as she does. It’s a lost art, right? People don’t care as much these days, or at least that’s how I feel. But she really cares. She cares from the moment you walk in, she cares that you’re greeted well. She cares that the hygienist going to do a good job. She follows through. She comes and asks you, did you meet the new person? How did you like them? Did you feel comfortable?

And when she’s taking care of you, she’s so gentle. She asks a million questions, she explains everything. She really wants to make sure that she’s doing a good job and you feel like she’s doing and taking care of you the proper way. And that has never changed in the last 30 years. I mean, I appreciate that so much, and I appreciate coming here, seeing Agnes being Mary, Lou being greeted, chatting, and I’ve known Dr. Kidonakis for over 30 years. So I’ve known her when she was single. I’ve known her when she married, and I had kids. We’ve talked about our children growing. It’s a practice that takes care of you. And it’s lovely. I mean, I can’t say enough. That’s why I’m here. So yeah, I would say that, and I would thank all of them for doing the great job that they do.

I would highly recommend Smile Today Dental to my friends or family because I generally do feel like they are family here, and every time I come here, I always feel like I’m so welcomed and the staff is so attentive and so genuinely caring about my health.

A procedure that made a difference for me is I had my Invisalign done here and the staff made the process so easy and smooth for me, and my teeth are so much more straighter and I feel so much more confident and I get so many compliments all the time on my smile. Before I came to Smile Today Dental, I hadn’t been to the dentist in probably about five years, so it’d been a while, and I was honestly hesitant, but nervous to the moment I walked through these doors. They were so gracious and welcoming and they really set me up with the plan. Perfect for me to get back and going to the dentist and exploring what I need done and really the help I need, and it’s been five years that I’ve been coming here. It’s been fantastic and I’m so thankful for them and what they’ve done for me.

We moved to Chicago 2018 and we were looking for a dentist and for many other doctors, and we wanted to keep the things locally because we have a big family, we have seven kids, and when times comes for teeth and you have to pay so many go, so visits for so many children and so many teeth, you want to go local. So the office is in a very nice place. At Glenview, we live close. So this was the first reason. The second reason was because Dr. Kidonakis is Greek and I have a Greek background and it always feels cozy and nice to be able to save few sentences, share some news in Greek or about your country. So that was the second reason. But the main reason I would say that we chose this place was that we searched and we saw that Dr. Kidonakis is a very experienced doctor.

30 years I believe in practice, and I appreciate the new doctors actually have. Two of my seven kids are in the medical school and I look forward for them to finish and start their practices and support them. But when time comes for a health issue, you really appreciate an experienced doctor. So I believe these three reasons made us choose this place. And what we found here, I think the place met our expectations and we found something more than we were expecting. And I will explain. My main problem was the sensitive gums. All my life I had very sensitive gums and they took such a good care here. And it’s about all these years I never felt that again because not only they took good care on the time I came for deep cleaning, but they keep up with inviting you back. They’re very good in sending notifications, help you to keep up with the good care.

And this is very important when you’re receiving a text message and email or even a paper, a letter in the mailbox, it’s a very good thing to see that someone cares and reminds you. And with such a big size of family we have, I need those reminders. Now about Dr. Kidonakis, she’s very knowledgeable, as I said, and very experienced and very respectful. I think a good dentist has to be a good ear, has to be a good teacher, has to be a good artist, and has to be a good person. And I think she has them all. She has all these qualities. And I will explain to you, she hears you well. She explains to you well, and she wants you to be comfortable with the procedures she’s going to do. So she never does something if she’s not sure that you are completely comfortable with that procedure.

And I would say her bigger strength is the prevention. She’s very, very good in preventing bad issues. And I realized that from my very first visit at her office. And I thought that day, oh my gosh, here, I’m going to have a healthy mouth always. And I feel safe because she knows very well because she’s so experienced. She knows well when to do a procedure and when to wait. She knows when the situation can wait and when you have to take action right away. And she has very light hands when she works. She has a joyful soul and she keeps always a good balance between work and communication with the patient. She’s very peaceful in her work and I believe in her leadership in the whole office here. And she always follows up after a procedure to make sure that you feel good. The place in general is a very good place, very cozy, very atmospheric, very friendly.

Once you step in, you feel all the people in the front desk, they turn their face, they smile, they greet you. It’s a beautiful place. And they’re very good in what they do, all of them. And it’s a place all of them by their name. This happens to me only at this medical office. I don’t know the personal names of everyone at the medical office, but I know here and they know our names of all of my children. So it’s a beautiful thing to see that you are welcomed, that you are appreciated, that they notice you. And in general, I would say, if I can do a general remark. My husband is a physician, so I am exposed in a daily basis to medical environments. And through the years I’ve seen that medicine has fallen to a trap of sacrificing the quality for the productivity.

And so dedicated goal, I would say, or maybe more a patient was not just a number or a medical case. It was a person, a unique person with a personality, a family, a background, a history. And I strongly believe that when you approach a patient with a holistic approach, you have a great impact to his healthcare. And also this has an impact to how he perceives your care. And I think Dr. Kidonakis preserves this idea in her office. And this is one of the main reason besides her very good medical experience and knowledge that I like this place. And I strongly recommend to all the people in friends, they ask for a place for their teeth. This is pretty much the place, as I said, is very beautiful, very, I never have stressed to come to the dentist. And I’ve heard that from other people.

It’s relaxing, it’s beautiful, and you want to come here with joy. And I really wish them good luck to continue and also to inspire young people that they come here to work or to take to be taken care of, to see that spirit and take it and embrace it and obtain that in their own paths and in their own careers. And I just want to congratulate them. Congratulate and thank them for what they are and for what they represent. Dr. Kidonakis has a natural respect and compassion for the patients who it’s so, so important for us. Thank you.
