Eight reasons why Glenview, Illinois area patients love composite fillings for decayed teeth

Composite Teeth Filling in Glenview IL Area

Drs. Evelyn Kidonakis and Jinyoung “Anny” Yoo of Smile Today Dental in Glenview, Illinois, provide many restorative procedures to help patients when problems occur within their smiles. This includes fillings, often used to address areas of tooth decay. When tooth decay, or cavities, are spotted, action is needed as soon as possible to avoid more potential problems. Fillings are best, and our team uses composite or tooth-colored fillings for many reasons. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why our patients love our composite resin fillings for their smiles!

What are eight reasons why patients love composite fillings?

  • Their natural appearance. One of the biggest reasons patients love composite fillings is because they closely resemble natural teeth in color and texture. Unlike metal fillings, which can be noticeable when patients laugh or open their mouths, composite fillings blend seamlessly with the surrounding teeth.
  • Minimally invasive placement. Composite fillings require much less removal of healthy tooth structure than metal fillings. This means that patients experience less discomfort during the procedure, and the overall integrity of their natural teeth is preserved.
  • Versatility in treating different types of cavities. Composite fillings can be used for both small and large cavities, as well as on front and back teeth. They are also used to repair minor chips or cracks in teeth. This versatility makes them a popular choice among patients.
  • Quick and easy procedure. Composite fillings can typically be placed in just a single appointment, making these fillings a convenient option for busy patients. The process involves cleaning and preparing the tooth, applying the composite material, and hardening it with a special light.
  • Long-lasting results. With proper care, our composite fillings can last for many years. They are also less likely to crack or break compared to metal fillings, which can corrode over time. This means patients can enjoy a strong and durable restoration without needing frequent replacements.
  • Biocompatible material. Composite fillings are fabricated from a special mixture of plastic and glass materials, making them more biocompatible with the body than metal fillings. This can be beneficial for patients who may have allergies or sensitivities to certain metals.
  • Less sensitivity after treatment. After getting a composite filling, patients often experience less sensitivity compared to metal fillings. This is because composite material does not expand and contract with specific changes in temperature like metal does, which can cause discomfort.
  • Affordability. Composite fillings are generally more cost-effective than other types of fillings, making them a reliable and popular choice for patients on a budget. Most dental insurance plans may also cover them.
