Tips for managing a toothache

Salt water rinse

Dissolve ½ a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and use it as a mouthwash. Salt water is a natural disinfectant. It can help loosen particles of food and other debris stuck between teeth. Treating a toothache with salt water may also help minimize inflammation and heal any oral wounds.

Clove oil

Dilute clove oil with a carrier oil like sunflower or jojoba oil (ratio - about 15 drops to one ounce). Dab a small amount onto a cotton ball and apply to the affected area a few times a day. Or add a drop of clove oil to a small glass of water for a mouthwash. Clove oil can numb pain and reduce inflammation.

If your toothache is severe or if it lasts for a few days, it’s best to see your dentist.
